Hopewell Junction - Nancy Scofield passed away on September 7, 2024. She was the only child of Harold and Doris (Herman) Saf. She was born November 13, 1952 in Rockville Centre, Long Island, NY. She was 71 years old. Nancy lived in Wantagh, LI, attended Levittown Schools and graduated from General Douglas MacArthur High School in 1970 where she excelled in home economics, track and volleyball.
Originally from Long Island, Nancy also lived in Rhode Island, Atlanta, Newburgh and Hopewell Junction. She attended the University of Rhode Island and Emory University in Atlanta where she graduated as a Registered Dietitian. She married Stephen Scofield on May 31, 1987 in New Windsor, NY. He survives at home.
Nancy enjoyed reading, sewing, Broadway Musicals, collecting foreign dolls from her parents' travels and solving Jumble puzzles. She was a member of the American Sewing Guild, Hudson Valley Chapter since 2002 and enjoyed charity work. She liked helping to make "chemo caps" to be worn by women who lost hair due to chemotherapy. Nancy survived breast cancer four times since 1992. She was also a member of the American Merchant Marine Veterans since 2007 to honor the legacy of her father's service as a Merchant Marine during World War II.
Nancy is survived by her husband Stephen and her cousin Loretta Heuer of Sherborn, MA. She is also survived by her niece, Lisa Campbell Painter of Melbourne, FL and her daughter Alexandria and her nephew, Kyle Campbell and his daughter Madelia and sons Wren and Xavier. She was predeceased by her parents, and infant sister, Baby Girl Saf in 1957, and her beloved Siamese cat, Suzie.
There are no calling hours and cremation will take place in accordance with Nancy's wishes. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc. A private burial will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh in the Saf family plot.
Donations in Nancy's memory may be made to the Dutchess County ASPCA.
