HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Natalie Lentoni Ostachowsky, 94, a resident of Hopewell Junction for over 40 years, passed away on May 1, 2016.
Nat was born in NYC on October 4, 1921. She was the daughter of Peter Lentoni and Erminia Bracchi and had one older brother, Major Edward J. Lentoni, US Army, who is now deceased.
Nat was the last survivor of the 3rd generation Bracchi family of New York City, which is now in its 8th generation all over the USA.
Nat grew up during the depression but never realized the problems of poverty. She was a tomboy and a dancer, and was happy with her life. She graduated at 17, and immediately ventured into show business but did not stay for long. Her ambition was the Radio City Rockettes but being only 5'2", she was doomed to getting nowhere in a good "line".
Soon after the war ended, Joe Ostachowsky came into her life. They met in a local bowling alley and that was it, the only fellow that really ever caught Nat's eye. They married in 1948 and in the following years came son Paul, daughter Julie, and son Roy. The family grew and the Ostachowskys finally moved to Hopewell Junction and built their own home. Her children are Paul Ostachowsky, Julie Borges and her husband David, and Roy Ostachowsky and his wife Doreen; grandchildren, Andre, Talia, Max, and Alex; and great-grandson, Adam. In 1982, her beloved Joe suddenly passed away at age 60. Unfortunately, it was before the grandchildren came along which he had so long hoped for.
In between all of these events, Nat had worked for IBM for 25 years and finally retired. Nat hated retirement and did all kinds of voluntary work to keep busy and traveled the world, but age finally caught up with her and she had to settle for reading, using the computer, and watching TV….But she was bored. She used to say, "Gee, I hope God has something interesting for me and Joe to do when and if I get up there."
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 10:30 am at St. Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Nat's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Dutchess County SPCA. For online condolences, memorial donations, or driving directions, please visit Nat's Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
