Obituary

Neal Thomas Bjorkman, 74, an area resident since 2011 and formerly of New Rochelle, died on December 30, 2024 surrounded by his family.

Born in Mount Vernon on January 15, 1950, he was the son of the late Edward and Pauline (Kleeman) Bjorkman.

Neal had been employed as a circulation manager for Gannett Suburban Newspapers. He has also worked as a mailman and driver for the College of New Rochelle.

He grew up in Blessed Sacrament Church in New Rochelle where he was as an altar server. He played baseball and basketball at Iona College and attracted the interest of the New York Mets. An avid history buff, he loved to read and he enjoyed watching the Rangers, Mets and Jets. He loved listening to music, especially his favorite artist, the Beach Boys.

He spent many years refereeing basketball. Neal was a popular and beloved coach of New Rochelle Little League, an organization he played for in his younger years. He will be remembered as an incredible storyteller, and always made sure that everyone had great stories to tell about him.

More than anying else, he was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend.

On May 2, 1976 in New Rochelle, Neal married Valerie Trembellos who survives at home.

He is also survived by his son, Keith Bjorkman; his daughter, Lauren Bjorkman; his brother, William "Buddy" Bjorkman; his sister-in-law, Susan Trembellos; his nieces and nephews, along with their families: Valerie, Christina, and Anthony, Steven, Adam, and Laurie.

He was predeceased by his sister, Judy; and his brother-in-law, Chris Trembellos.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 2-5pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a funeral service at 4:30pm.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
