Nicholas
Monaco
July 3, 1952 – February 6, 2026
Nicholas "Gramps" Monaco, a resident of Poughquag, NY, since 2018 and formerly of Yonkers, NY, passed away peacefully at home on February 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his devoted family.
Born in the Bronx, NY, on July 3, 1952, Nicholas was the beloved son of the late John and Rose (Campone) Monaco. On September 17, 1971, he married the one true love of his life, Valerie (D'Augelli), in Maryland. Together, they shared over 54 years of unwavering love, laughter, and partnership. Valerie survives at home and was the center of his world.
Nicholas lived life on his own terms and with great joy. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, enjoying a good cigar, keeping up with Fox News, and never missed a chance to talk about the Yonkers Racetrack. Known affectionately as "Gramps" to so many - especially the Arlington Boys Bowling Team - he wore that title with pride and love.
Gramps had a heart bigger than the moon. He was endlessly giving, deeply kind, and a true family man in every sense of the word. Family always came first, and he would willingly go without for himself if it meant helping someone else, even a stranger. His generosity, loyalty, and strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
In addition to his beloved wife Valerie, Nicholas is survived by his loving children: John (Lisa) Monaco, Nicole (Jeff) Rufino, Jennifer Monaco (Ivan Ortega), and Marianna Monaco (Emily Burgess). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Carly, Johnny (Marlia), Dominic (Reyna), Ivan Jr., and Katerina. He is also survived by his siblings: Thomas (Randi) Monaco, Anthony (Sara) Monaco, Rosemarie (Joe) Romano, Donald (Patricia) Simon, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends and grand-dogs Tequila, Chula, Bella, Rylee, Rani, Buddy, and Cooper and grand-cat Samantha.
In addition to his parents, Nicholas was predeceased by his brother John.
