HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Nicola Macchiarola, 85, an area resident since 2000 and formerly of the Bronx and Italy, died on February 25, 2014 at the Wingate at Dutchess.
Born in Marcone, Italy on December 6, 1928, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Libera (Ulli) Macchiarola. On July 25, 1957 in Italy, he married Lidia Caiazza who survives at home.
Nicola owned and operated Nicky Tile Co. in the Bronx. He was a parishioner at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction and Past President of the Vesuvius Italian Social Club in the Bronx. An avid card player, Nicola also liked hunting, fishing, taking walks, and spending time at the beach. Most of all, he loved his family and enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Nicola is survived by his daughter, Josephine Greco and her husband Rocco of Hopewell Junction; and his grandchildren, Alyssa and Anthony Greco. He was also predeceased by his son, Anthony Macchiarola and his brothers and sisters.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 – 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx.
