Obituary

Norma L. Buon, 93, a resident of Beacon since 1958 and formerly of Brooklyn, died on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Renaissance Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hyde Park.
Born in Brooklyn on November 6, 1921, she was the daughter of Dominick and Theresa Buonincontro. Norma graduated from St. Mary's Elementary School, St. Brendan's High School and Brooklyn College. Norma had a beautiful voice and sang professionally for many years. She had been employed as an overseas operator with AT&T for 7 years, and an airline stewardess with Eastern Airlines for 10 years. She also owned and managed three state registered rooming houses in Beacon.
Norma helped start the Stewardess' Union with Eastern Airlines, and was instrumental in assisting with a law suit involving age discrimination. She was the former treasurer of the Beacon Taxpayers and Rent Payers Association, was on the board of directors for the former Cecilwood Theater, and was the former treasurer for the Separated and Divorced Catholics Group at Graymoor. She also served as the Commissioner of Accounts for the City of Beacon and volunteered with the Mid-Hudson Animal Rescue.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Charles Cemetery.
