Norma Colonna Roddy, a resident of Hillside Lake and formerly of Beacon, Alexandria, VA and Metuchen, NJ, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday Morning, April 5, 2015.
Norma was born in Beacon, New York on November 27, 1931. She was the daughter of Vincenzo Colonna and Assunta Colonna. She spent her childhood growing up in Beacon with her parents and three brothers. She was a graduate of Beacon High School and the Central Academy of Beauty Culture in Newburgh where she studied Cosmetology. After graduating, she worked as a hair stylist at Tillie's Beauty Salon in Beacon with her close friend Tillie Hayward.
Norma met the love of her life, Crawford Memory Roddy, in Baltimore, MD where they were married on April 18, 1960. They were married for 53 years until he predeceased her on July 30, 2013. After their wedding, she and her husband relocated to Alexandria, VA and then to Metuchen, NJ. During that time, Norma continued her work as a hair stylist until she gave birth to her only child, her pride and joy, Vincent Paul Roddy, who survives. Not long after that they relocated to Beacon, NY.
In 1967, Norma began working for A&P Supermarket where she was employed for 15 years. She then went to work for IBM Corporation until her retirement in 1991. In 1974, she and her husband purchased a home in Hillside Lake and relocated to East Fishkill, where they both remained for the rest of their lives.
Norma loved being a homemaker. She had a special talent and love for cooking. She enjoyed watching classic movies, especially westerns. She also enjoyed reading and had a special love for reading her Bible. Norma was a woman of great faith. She was a member of the Hopewell Reformed Church, Hopewell Junction and St. Joachim Church, Beacon.
She was a kind and caring person, but never afraid to speak her mind and stand up for what she believed was right. She had a deep love and affection for all of her family, and was a wonderful giving mother to her son and daughter in law, who shared an exceptionally close relationship with her. She will be greatly missed.
Besides her son Vincent, she is also survived by her daughter-in-law Adelina Paredes Roddy of East Fishkill; her brother Vincent Colonna and his wife Dorothy of Ormond Beach, FL; her sister-in-law Mildred Colonna of Beacon; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by two brothers Peter Colonna and Alex Colonna. The family would also like to mention another sister-in-law Coleen McPike, Palmyra, NY, who also passed away on the same day.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1:30pm at Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in Hopewell Cemetery.
