Obituary

Norman R. Johnsen, 85, a resident of Pawling since 1968, died peacefully on May 9, 2025 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Brooklyn on March 2, 1940, he was the son of the late Gustav Lund and Margoth Nicole (Skofteland) Johnsen.

Norman had a varied career, beginning as a lieutenant in Brewster Volunteer Fire Department and small plane charter pilot. He then served as a deputy sheriff and detective with the Putnam County Sheriff's Department. After receiving his Masters Degree in Education, he became a secondary Social Studies teacher in the Pawling School District, and later, a producer for IBM. He retired as a recruiter from the USMMA at Kings Point.

On April 14, 1968 at the Central Baptist Church in Pawling, Norman married Susan Louise Utter who survives at home. He is also survived by his son, Christian Johnsen and his wife Carrie; his daughters, Elizabeth Benson and her husband Jeffery, and Ellen Tembreull and her husband Patrick; his grandchildren, Karoline and Leif Johnsen, James, William and Thomas Benson, and Anne, Graham and Charlotte Tembreull.
