Olusegun Ifalase, 72, of Hopewell Junction and Long Island, New York died on January 19, 2022 in his home.
Born in New Providence, Bahamas on September 25, 1949, he was the son of Clifford and Janie (Jenny Gibson) Bain. Olusegun attended St. Joseph's, St. Mary's, Our Lady's and Saint Augustine College. He continued his studies in Psychology at the University of Miami, Coral Gables , Florida earning a Ph.D. He was employed as a School Psychologist for the Wyandanch Unified School District for 17 years until his retirement in 2018.
As a Traditionalist, other than having children, being a "Babalawo" was the most important aspect of his life. As an African traditionalist it led him to become a better person. In his many travels he met many people, made numerous friends and, most importantly, it allowed him to be of service to the community through knowing Orisa. Olusegun enjoyed music, reading, photography and playing traditional drums. He loved culture and was a Nationalist. He also had been a member and served on the Board of directors for New York Association of Black Psychologists.
Olusegun is survived by his wife/partner and friend, Kim Caraway and three ex-wives. His children, Akilah H. Bain, Kwasi R. Bain, Jamila Bain-Mercado and Malik Brooks; his grandchildren, Malik, Mekhi and Malcolm Augustin, Angel, Kori and Khyiem Bain, Lillian, Lincoln and Lacie Mercado. A few family members of Andros and New Providence , Bahamas include; Aunt Prudence Joyce , Uncle Yorick Gibson and the children of his late uncle and aunt Harold and Ena (Knowles) Woodside. Their children are Urick and his wife Naomi Woodside; Reverend Harold Junior and his wife Rozelda Woodside; Mary and her late husband Carlton Bowleg; Dolly and her late husband Alvin Curry; Elon and Shirley Arnette; Jenna (deceased) and her husband Nathanial Pratt and Marva Icelyn Woodside (deceased) and her daughter Chantel Wallace and a large extended family. Olusegun also embraced an expansive community, work and Orisa family.
