Patricia Clare Donoghue Flory, 68, died on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA.
Patricia was born on St. Joseph’s Day, March 19, 1946. She was the daughter of the late Petronella Van Kalmthout Donoghue and Leo Joseph Donoghue of Flushing, Queens, NY.
In 1962, Patricia was crowned Miss Mets, the first and only Miss Mets to wear that crown. In 1964, Patricia was crowned Miss Long Island and won 4th runner up for Miss New York in the Miss America Pageant. She was the winner of several other beauty pageants. Patricia had a brief modeling career for Gertz Department Store in Flushing, Queens, NY, and appeared in print, next to the Mona Lisa during it’s visit here in America.
Preferring a married life to that of a career, Patricia married Nazareth Flory of Whitestone, Queens, NY on August 11, 1964. Mr. Flory predeceased her on August 29, 2013. Patricia is survived by her children, Nazareth and his wife Diane of Hopewell Junction, Frank and his wife Christine of Hopewell Junction, and Nicole Flory Kellogg and her husband Derek of Amherst, MA; her beloved grandchildren, Erin, Sophia, Isabella and Olivia Flory, and Maximus Kellogg; and her brother, Gregory L. Donoghue of Bradenton, FL. Patricia’s fondest memories were those of her four granddaughters and her grandson.
Patricia was an ardent fan of the UMass Minutemen Basketball Team, and it’s players and chaplain, Father Smegal. Patricia enjoyed repartee between her and the Kellogg’s black Labrador retriever, Niko.
Patricia and her husband Nazareth were in business together, first with the Hilltop Service Station in Mahopac, NY, and then with Creative Furniture in Wappingers Falls, NY.
May the Almighty Father forgive Patricia her sins and grant unto her eternal life and peace. May Patricia Clare Donoghue Flory know the full joys and glorys of Heaven in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 9am-12 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 12: 30 pm at St. Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, Lagrangeville followed by entombment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery. The family encourages friends from Massachusetts to attend a Memorial Mass which will be held at St. Brigid's Church in Amherst, MA Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 6 pm.
