Patricia Michelle Genin, 84, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 25 following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Patricia was born in Chicago, Ill. on Sep 4, 1938, the daughter of Polish immigrant parents Sophie and Stanley Fudala. The youngest of three, Patricia grew up in a Polish speaking household. A determined student she earned a scholarship and was the first in her family to go to college.
Patricia went on to attend Beloit college where she met and married the love of her life, Dennis Genin, on June 4, 1960. Patricia and Dennis moved to Iowa, where she raised their children and worked while Dennis pursued his PhD in Physics from Iowa State University. In 1968, they relocated with IBM to Dutchess County, New York where they lived for the remainder of their 43-year marriage. She remained there until 2015 when she decided to move closer to her daughter, Denise, and live in her dream home in Huntersville, North Carolina.
In 1968, Patricia's career as a licensed real estate broker began at Matt Jordan Real Estate and spanned more than four decades. Working for various real estate agencies throughout the years, Patricia made friends wherever she went. She enjoyed getting to know her clients and helping them find the right home. Many of her clients became long-time friends and repeat customers who valued her honesty and integrity.
Patricia enjoyed the holiday season and celebrated by decorating her home and baking for family and friends. A big fan of Snoopy and Woodstock, the Charlie Brown tv specials were always a favorite of hers. Patricia was an active member of the community, spending her daughters' childhood years volunteering in their schools, and with Girl Scouts and 4H. Later in life, she volunteered with Community Friends in Fishkill and baked pies for Mt. Alvernia's annual Christmas Craft Fair. An avid reader, she proudly led the book club at the Waymer Senior Center in Huntersville, NC. There, she made some very special friends who she enjoyed activities and taking trips with. She also cared for cats and dogs at the Cornelius Animal Shelter. Before moving to NC, she was a long-time parishioner of St Mary's in Fishkill.
She loved her grandchildren and was extremely proud of them. She never let a holiday pass without a card or care package as a constant reminder of her love for them. Except during Covid, she attended every high school and college graduation, including her last grandchild's high school graduation this past June. Patricia enjoyed the simple pleasures in life like the annual vacations with her daughters' families and sitting on her back porch with her favorite book and her cat, Cato.
She is survived by her three daughters, Denise Brethen of North Carolina, Louise Tompkins of New York, and Aimee Adamec of California, two sons-in-law, Bob Brethen and Gregg Tompkins, and six loving grandchildren Elizabeth, Matthew, Caroline, Holden, Terrence, and Merrick. She was predeceased by her husband Dennis in 2003 and infant daughter Joan in 1961.
She will always be unforgettable.
