Patricia Rose Rooney, 86, an area resident for 15 years and formerly of Yorktown Heights and New Rochelle, died peacefully at her home on February 13, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Rochelle on July 11, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Aloysius and Marjorie (Gedney) Maguire. Patricia received her bachelor's degree from Hunter College and master's degree from Fordham University. She taught math and English at St. Teresa of Avila School in Tarrytown and at Our Lady of Victory Academy in Dobbs Ferry.
Patricia was a devoted parishioner of St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction where she was a member of Women of Grace. An avid fan of the New York Mets, she also enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, reading, cooking, completing crossword puzzles and playing board games. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family.
On January 23, 1960, Patricia married the love of her life, Peter S. Rooney, who predeceased her on September 21, 2017. She was also predeceased by her sister, Leslie Maguire Shortt ; and her grandsons, Patrick and Jack Rooney.
Patricia is survived by her children and their spouses, Peter and Adele Rooney, Eileen and Eugene Mulligan, Joseph Rooney, Susan Oswald, Stephen and Etta Rooney, John and Mary-Jane Rooney; her grandchildren, Brian and Kirsten Mulligan, Nicholas and Rachel Rooney, Meagan Rooney, Joseph Rooney, Zachary Oswald, Kevin Mulligan, Jake Rooney, Sean Mulligan, Luke Oswald, Connor Oswald, Brennan Rooney, Doyle Rooney, Jeanne-Rose Rooney, Cian Rooney and Suzanne Rooney; her great-grandsons, Peter and Christopher Rooney; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 20 from 4- 8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, February 21 at 10am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
