Obituary

Hopewell Junction – Patricia Warnken, an area resident since 1971, peacefully passed after a courageous battle with Acute Myloid Leukemia at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on Wednesday May 3, 2023. She was 77.

Daughter of the late Pasquale and Anna (Cannella) Bonaventura, she was born in the Bronx on July 6, 1945. She joined her sister, Carol Logue, who survives in Westminster, CA.

In June of 1963, Pat graduated from Evander Childs High School in the Bronx. After graduating high school, Pat then went on to work for many years as a secretary for her beloved, late boss John Pirro at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Manhattan, NY.

On September 2, 1968 at Saint Philip and James in Bronx, NY she married Frederick Warnken, Jr. who survives at home. She is also survived by her daughters and grandchildren, Dina Warnken and her son Gavin Warnken-Ellis of Poughkeepsie and Danielle Kolachik, her husband Mark, and their children Hayden, Logan, Addie (and granddog, Jax) of Poughkeepsie.

Motherhood brought Pat many new activities to focus on alongside her two daughters. For years Pat was very involved with the Girl Scouts of Dutchess County. Being a troop leader and planning activities all around the community to empower young people kept her quite busy. Her sewing talents even reappeared and she would often lend a hand helping out the Estelle and Alfonso dance community.

Pat's ongoing professional commitment to Wappingers Central School District since beginning in 1985 brought her back to the professional world. She very much loved working with children and helping out where she was needed. Her level of compassion to those in the disabled community was unmatched. In her almost 40 years with the district, she spent many years at Gayhead Elementary and the last 15 years at John Jay High School that brought many long-standing, loyal and personal friendships that meant the world to her.

Pat was devoted to her loving family, and she was especially proud of her four grandchildren. Watching them grow up pursuing their individualities, reading with them and shopping for them were some of her favorite things to do. But spending time traveling to the beach, amongst other places, was what she most thoroughly enjoyed to do with all of them.

In addition to her family and friends in Dutchess County, she will also be missed by her brother-in-law, Al Logue of Westminster, CA; her brother-in-law, Wilfred Warnken, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her nephews, Jimmy Kalinowski, John Kalinowski, and Steven Oram; and her great nephews and great nieces. She will truly be missed in everyone's life.

In addition to her parents, Pat is predeceased by her father-in-law, Frederick Warnken, Sr. (1965), brother-in-law, Walter Warnken (1979), mother-in-law Dina Warnken (2005) and her best friend, Judi Kassatly (2010).

Her family would like to thank Dr. Adele Elkareh, the entire team of Dr. Gail Roboz and the staff on floor 10 north at NY Presbyterian Weill Cornell, Dr. Yaw Apenteng and the staff at Vassar Brothers Hospital, and especially Dr. Danny Perkes for their concern, care and kindness for our Mom since her illness began.

Donations may be made in Pat's memory to a charity of your choosing.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to honor and celebrate Pat.
