It is with great sadness that we recognize the passing of Pauline (Paula) Papastrat at age 74 on July 11th, 2016. Paula was born in Poughkeepsie on Feb 11th 1942 to George and Helen Papastrat. She was a Poughkeepsie High School Graduate, and received her secretarial training at the Krissler Business Institute. She was a member of the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church. Paula was well known in Dutchess County having spent 25+ years as a secretary in the Judicial System. From her duties in Family Court through her time assisting at the New York Supreme Court, she took great pride and honor in her service and commitment. She was the 2003 recipient of the prestigious Joseph Gagiliardi Award for Excellence (Ninth Judicial District). She was strong willed with a heart of gold. She always gave 100% in the care of and assistance to others. Paula was a member of the Elks Lodge #275 Poughkeepsie and had a long time association with the New Hamburg Fire Department. She loved to play Scrabble and other games with a close group of lifelong friends that she loved dearly.
Paula leaves behind her loving children/grandchildren. Her daughter Cynthia Salberg, husband Glenn, and their son Alexander. Her son Al Kauffman , wife Alora, and their son Logan. Paula had a special bond with her sister Barbara Retzer and brother-in-law Lou Retzer. Al Kauffman, her former husband, predeceased her.
We will miss her greatly, but will always feel her presence.
Calling hours are 2pm- 6pm Sunday July 17th at McHoul Funeral Home, 895 Route 82 Hopewell Junction.
Services will be 10 am Monday July 18th at the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 South Grand Avenue Poughkeepsie. Entombment will follow at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church.
