Penny B.
Brooks
October 10, 1955 – May 14, 2026
Penny B. Brooks, a longtime local area resident, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Hudson Valley Hospice House in Hyde Park. She was 70.
Daughter of the late Oliver and Iva Mae McKinney Glass, Penny was born in Erie, PA, on October 10, 1955. She graduated from John Jay Senior High School in East Fishkill and worked as an administrative clerk for Ridgefield Farm in Fishkill.
On October 29, 1983, Penny married James A. Brooks.
Penny was a friendly, soft-spoken person. She didn't laugh loudly; instead, she would giggle and follow it with a little smile. She enjoyed doing fun things with her boys when they were young, including fishing and ATV riding. She also liked to knit, crochet, and sew. Penny had many pets throughout her life, including tortoises, frogs, and koi fish, for which she built a pond.
More than anything else, Penny had a great affection for horses, whether riding, training, or grooming them. She was also a mega fan of the show Heartland and had watched all 19 seasons more than once.
In 2025, Penny was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Brooks. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her son, John Edward "Teddy" Cox, and her brother, Gregory Glass.
Penny is survived by her son, James Brooks of Fishkill; her daughter-in-law, Desiree Cox of Texas; her grandchildren, Kayson and Olivia; her siblings, Connie Gawryczik and her husband, Gene, of Washington, Terry Glass and his wife, Carol, of Wappingers Falls, and Timothy Glass and his wife, Wendy, of Highland; her sister-in-law, Diane Glass of South Carolina; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
