Peter Dorn, age 88, passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side on August 13, 2023 after a brief illness. Peter was born June 21, 1935, in Vienna, Austria and immigrated to New York City in 1938. He loved going to Coney Island with his aunts and eating salami sandwiches on the beach. Peter grew up in the Bronx and graduated from City College of New York, in 1956 with a BS in Chemistry. He went on to earn a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Kansas and then worked at Texaco in Beacon, NY for thirty-six years in chemical research. He set industry-wide motor-gasoline and aviation fuel specifications and holds numerous patents. Aside from all the friends he had at Texaco, a highlight from his career was working on the System 3 Gasoline formula and doing a commercial with Bob Hope.
Peter married Karleen Seubert in Poughkeepsie, NY on June 27, 1965 and they raised their three daughters in LaGrangeville. He loved the ocean and summers on Long Beach Island where he was a master boogie-boarder and avid Flamingo Golf player. Other interests included: astronomy, handball, running, hiking and traveling out west.
Peter is survived by his wife Karleen, and his daughters, Amy (Jon) Bertolino, Ridgefield, CT; Cheri (Erik) Kropp Bend, OR; Melissa Dorn (Darin Gronewold) Seattle, WA and his six beloved grandchildren: Samantha and Lindsay Bertolino, Andrew and Chelsea Kropp and Jasper and Greta Gronewold.
Peter's presence will be missed in all our lives.
Visiting hours are open to the public and will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction from 2-4 p.m. with a short memorial service at 4 p.m.
