Peter J. Brofman, Ph.D., 61, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1980 and formerly of Deer Park, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 16, 2015.

Born in Levittown on September 2, 1953, Peter was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy where he received his Bachelors Degree in Science, Masters Degrees in Business Administration and Materials Science, and his Ph.D. in Metallurgy. He was a Distinguished Engineer at IBM, working at their East Fishkill plant for 34 years until his retirement in 2014. He worked in development and research on material science for microelectronics. He was a member of the IBM Academy of Technology and the American Society for Material International. Peter was a member of Congregation Shir Chadash in LaGrangeville where he served as a board member. Peter enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially on his screen porch, keeping up with current events, and traveling.

Peter was predeceased by his parents, Vivian and Owen Kaufman, and Jerome Brofman; and his first wife, Irene Ingebretsen in June of 1994.

On November 18, 1995 in Millbrook, Peter married Elizabeth A. "Beth" Putnam who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, David Brofman, Ingrid Sylvester and her husband Frank, and Kenneth Brofman; his brother, Lance Brofman and his wife Ellen; and many other loving extended family members and friends.

A service will be held on Monday at 3:00pm at Congregation Shir Chadash, 1168 Route 55, LaGrangeville. The family will receive friends at their home on Monday immediately following the service until 7pm, and on Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-7pm.
