Peter Robert Stolz, 87, resident of Pleasant Valley, NY since 2020 and formerly of Rocky Point, Long Island, died peacefully in his home on October 21, 2022 surrounded by his wife and three daughters.
Born in Ulm, Germany, he was the son of Robert and Marie (Schneider) Stolz. Peter proudly served our country in the US Army and was employed as a carpenter for Brookhaven National Laboratory in Long Island.
Peter is survived by his wife of 62 years, Magdalena (Zurl) Stolz; his daughters and their husbands, Diane and Brian Roche, Irene and Luther Stephney, Karen and Joseph Wunderlich; his grandchildren, Brendan and Becky Roche, Kelsey and Ryan Marrano, Jordan Stephney and his girlfriend Madeline Schepis, Karlee Stephney, Saige Stephney, Zachary Wunderlich and his girlfriend Yasmin Hack; Peter Wunderlich and his girlfriend Sheah Tooley; and Victoria Wunderlich; and his sister Marianne Liberta. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Trudl Pfizenmeyer.
Peter was a kind and gentle man, devoted to his wife and family. As a young family of five, their summers were spent boating, water skiing, and clamming on the Long Island Sound and their winters were spent snow skiing. He was a hard worker and a master carpenter. He built their family home that he and his wife shared for 48 years. His daughters brought their children there for many holidays and to spend summers on the Sound. He often said he had four homes, his and
his daughters. Each of their homes still has furniture he crafted for them with love.
He spent his retirement traveling the world with his wife and tending to their beautiful gardens. Peter, also known as Opa to his grandchildren and their friends, was happiest when he was surrounded by his family while sitting with his buddy Winky, Irene and Luther's dog. Opa, a lover of big band music, was quite the dancer, particularly to Mack the Knife. Although he was a man of few words, he was known for his well timed humor that brought laughter and smiles to all.
In memory of Peter, his family asks you to enjoy a Manhattan in his honor.
