Philip Tempesta, Jr., 79, a resident of Fishkill since 2002 and formerly of Long Island City, died on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Manhattan on January 14, 1931, he was the son of Philip and Antoinette Otto Tempesta. For many years, he was a self-employed cab driver and then he worked for the Marine Midland Bank as a mailroom clerk. He was a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church. He played softball and basketball for the Pelican Club for the Deaf and he bowled with the Spoilers Bowling Team for the Deaf. Philip loved being with his family and he enjoyed watching movies.
On May 29, 1971 at St. Luke's Church, Whtestone, Philip married Peggy Lou Hickey who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Steven Tempesta of Florida, Peter Tempesta of Manhattan, Mark Tempesta of Ozone Park, Lisa Bliss and her husband Mike of Fishkill and Laura Russo and her husband Anthony of Astoria; his granddaughter, Olivia Russo, as well as another grandchild who is due in July 2011; and his sister-in-law, Susan Hickey and her partner, Christine Oliver.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11 am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
