With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Phyllis Virginia Forde, 81, a cherished lifelong resident of East Fishkill, who crossed over peacefully on November 6, 2025, after a short, courageous battle with cancer.

Phyllis was born in Poughkeepsie on May 22, 1944, to the late John and Pearl (Purcell) Hayton. A proud graduate of Mount St. Mary's College in Newburgh, she earned her degree in 1967, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to service and compassion. After graduating, Phyllis embarked on her career as a special education teacher in the Wappingers Central School District, where she devoted her time and energy to making a positive impact on the lives of her students.

On April 5, 1968, Phyllis married the love of her life, James Forde, originally from Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Together, they built a loving home filled with warmth and laughter. Phyllis is survived by her beloved husband, James, and their children: Scott, James, and his wife Cynthia, Carol, and her husband Bob, and Jeffrey and his wife Courtney. Phyllis was the proud grandmother of eight wonderful grandchildren: Samantha, Mackenzie, Iker, Andre, Jasmine, Chandler, Gavin, and Jack, and two great-grandchildren, Ivy and Hazel. Her family was her greatest joy, and her love will continue to shine through each of them.

Throughout her life, Phyllis was deeply committed to her community, serving with kindness and dedication. She was an elder and deacon at Hopewell Reformed Church, a devoted Scout leader, a valued life member of the East Fishkill Fire Department, and an active participant in the Order of the Eastern Star.

Her spirit of selflessness and service touched the lives of many and set a shining example for all who were fortunate enough to know her. Phyllis's legacy of love, service, and resilience will forever remain in our hearts. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she enriched.

Calling hours for Phyllis will be held on Monday, November 10th from 3-7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. A celebration of Phyllis's life will be held on Tuesday November 11th at 10am at Hopewell Reformed Church in Hopewell Junction, NY.
