Rachel Perry Bell passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Rachel was born in Rutland, VT on August 26, 1942 to Bennett and Miriam Bell and is survived by her two children, David Bell Danvers (Karen) and Alan Perry Danvers (Kate), and 5 grandchildren, Andrew, Erik, Alison, Bennett, and Quinn Danvers. After graduating from Rutland High School, Rachel attended the University of Rochester and Rhode Island School of Design, and graduated from Syracuse University in 1965 where she met her former spouse, William Rosenberg, father of David and Alan. She completed her Masters in Counseling at Long Island University Dobbs Ferry in 1988. Rachel began her career as an art teacher before staying at home to take care of her sons. She was active locally as they moved to the Wappingers area. She was President of Dutchess County Newcomers and a floor parent at Grahm Junior college and MIT when they relocated to Boston for 2 years. Her first passion was genealogy, which she began in her teens by talking to aunts and uncles about family history. Her own research and desire to help others with theirs led her to be an active member of the IBM Genealogy Club and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She interviewed countless older relatives and visited cemeteries all over New England and Quebec finding more connections, eventually leading to ancestors on the Mayflower in 1620. Rachel was a proficient artist, focusing on oil portraiture. She studied locally under a famous portrait artist and completed several commissioned pieces for local families. She maintained a studio in the house where she taught students. One of her favorite pieces was a charcoal drawing of her father after he passed. She painted landscapes as well, as her mother had. Tinkering and home repair skills were honed with her father as a child and then working on his houses and her own. As a landlord and investor, she sheetrocked, painted, plumbed and electrified her house and rental properties. She rounded out her employment as high school guidance counselor, pruning business owner (her boys joined her), tax preparer, ad seller for the Southern Dutchess News and Avon rep. Finally, as an adventurer/traveler she visited the Midwest as a teenager, Europe in her 20s, Japan, visited her parents in Sarasota, her friends in Deerfield Beach, family in Vermont (including their camp on Lake Bomoseen), and vacations in Mexico. The family will hold a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to DAR or your favorite charity in Rachel's name.
