Obituary

Ralph Anthony Calvano, Jr., 59, an area resident for 32 years and formerly of Westchester County, died suddenly on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born on May 13, 1951 in Mount Vernon, he was the son of Ralph Anthony Calvano, Sr. and Rose Lorusso Calvano. He was employed as a Systems Analyst for IBM in Poughkeepsie for 37 years until his retirement in 2009.

Ralph was a Parishioner of St. Columba Church. At the time of his death, he was faithfully serving his Parish as Trustee, a member of the Parish Council and Finance Committee. Ralph was a faithful Usher, always present for the 7:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays and available whenever needed. He also represented the Parish on the Dutchess County Vicariate Council. His faithfulness to, and love for, his Catholic Faith was an inspiration to many. He will be greatly missed by his Parish family.

He was a member of the BPOE #2609, Wappingers Falls, worked with the Hudson Valley Umpires Association, and coached Pop Warner Football with the East Fishkill Packers. He was an avid fan of Army Football and enjoyed woodworking, cooking and entertaining.

On October 16, 1976 at St. Gregory's Church in Harrison, Ralph married Regina Ferreri who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Sandra Silva and her husband Ryan of Troy, Joseph Calvano and his wife Rachel of Plano, TX and Angela Calvano of Troy; his sister, Lucia Calvano of Mount Vernon; his mother-in-law, Mary Ferreri of Poughkeepsie; his sister-in-law, Flora Wistrich and her husband Rick of Hopewell Jct.; his brother-in-law, Fred Ferreri and his wife Johnna of Mamaroneck; his sister-in-law, Nanette Ferrreri of Ridgewood, NJ; and his nieces and nephews, Jason and Ryan Wistrich and Addie Ferreri.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
