Obituary

NEWBURGH, NY / PORT CHARLOTTE, FL – Raul Ricardo Calderon, 76, died on December 27, 2020 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, FL. He moved to Florida in 2020 after previously residing in Newburgh, NY.
Born on February 4, 1944 in Lima, Peru, Raul was the son of the late Andres and Rosa (Vargas) Calderon. He immigrated to the United States on May 8, 1972, and will always be remembered as a true representation of the American Dream.
He owned and operated Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurant in Newbugh, NY for many years and previously worked as the Manager at Mama Brava Pizzeria.
Raul was a parishioner at St. Patrick’s Church in Newburgh, NY. He enjoyed taking walks and dancing with his beautiful wife. He liked to read the newspaper and shop at Sam’s Club, and was a fan of action movies. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, and shared his passion of fine cuisine with them all.
On December 8, 1962 in Lima, Peru, Raul married Sixta Gloria (Pacahuala) Calderon. The love of his life survives at home after 58 years of marriage. He is also survived by his children, Doris Smith of Cornwall, NY, Cristina Mullins and her husband Todd of Gardiner, NY, Elena Martinez and her husband Ernesto of Port Charlotte, FL, Maribel Napolitano and her husband Tony of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Richard Calderon and his wife Meredith of Hopewell Junction, NY; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his siblings, Andres Calderon and his wife Rosario of Schenectady, NY, Maruja Morales and her husband Silverio of Lima, Peru, Raquel Guerra and her husband Ferreol of Lima, Peru, Alicia Calderon of Lima, Peru, and Dina viuda de Flores of Lima, Peru; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 4 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, January 5 at 11:30 am at St. Patrick’s Church, 55 Grand Street, Newburgh, NY followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery in Newburgh, NY.
