Obituary

Raymond J. Carnahan, 88, of Port St. Lucie, FL since 1980 and formerly of Hopewell Junction, died on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Castle Point VAMC.
Born in Yonkers on September 29, 1923, he was the son of Claude and Catherine Maher Carnahan. Raymond proudly served our country in the US Navy as a Seabee during World War II. He was employed as a Corrections Officer for the State of New York at Greenhaven Correctional Facility for 25 years until his retirement in 1972. He then became a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local#21. He was an honorary life member of St. Mary's Council #4065, Knights of Columbus in Fishkill and the Lions Club in Florida. Even though Ray had moved to Florida, he was often seen with his family at the Stormville Flea Market.
On March 3, 1946, Raymond married Elaine Tully who predeceased him on July 23, 1995. Raymond is survived by his children and their spouses, Thomas and Patricia Carnahan of Stormville and Catherine and Ed Schoonmaker of Millbrook; his grandchildren, Karen Schoonmaker-Kunz, Kelly Smay, Michelle Gorman, Sheila McMahon and Thomas Carnahan; and his great-grandchildren, Brenna Kunz, Caiden and Keegan Smay, Kyle and Connor Gorman, Brittany and Kailey McMahon, Thomas and Blake Carnahan. He was predeceased by his siblings, James, Claude Jr., Edith and Mildred Carnahan.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Thursday at the funeral home followed by interment with military honors in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.
