Raymond Edward Ebe, 93, a resident of Poughkeepsie since 1956 and formerly of New Milford, NJ, died on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Born in Jersey City, NJ on March 31, 1921, he was the son of Edward and Emily Wadle Ebe.
He attended primary schools in Hackensack, N.J. and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Rutgers University. He was an accomplished trumpet player and performed at both Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall with the Rutgers Glee Club.
A World War II Veteran, he served with General Omar Bradley's 12th Army Group that marched from the beaches of Normandy to the heart of Germany.
On June 7, 1946 in Elton, Md.; Raymond married Vivian Holscher, who predeceased him on October 5, 2013. They were high school sweethearts and where together for 75 years.
Raymond was employed as a Commercial Insurance Professional for American Mutual Insurance Co. until his retirement in 1978. As Poughkeepsie regional Manager he insured many of the large businesses in the area such as Vassar College, Dutton Lumber, Shatz Federal Bearing, Fargo Manufacturing, Brick Manufacturers and Brotherhood Winery's to name a few.
Upon retiring, he started a second successful career selling real estate. He once remarked about the ease of selling homes instead of insurance, "It is so much easier to sell someone a house that they truly want, instead of insurance that they are not sure that they need."
He was active in the community and served as president of the Rotary and Poughkeepsie Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the County Players and enjoyed performing in "South Pacific" and "Guys and Dolls". Raymond was a proud member of Masonic Lodge 1013 , Hartsdale, N.Y. for over 65 years.
Raymond is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Clark DeTraglia of Union Vale,N.Y. and Susan and Allan Abolafia of Bluffton, S.C.; his grandchildren, Erica DeTraglia and husband Douglas Ford of LaGrangeville, N.Y., Michael Abolafia and wife Amy of Ardmore, PA, Alicia Nace and husband Kyle of LaGrangeville, N.Y., Adrienne DeTraglia of Hartsdale, N.Y., Aaron Abolafia of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Daniel Abolafia and wife Meg of Breinigsville, PA.; and great-grandchildren, Amelia Ford , Zack Abolafia and Brayden Abolafia.
His last two and half years were spent at the Manor at Woodside, where he made many friends and enjoyed his time there. The family would also like to thank his caregivers for the excellent care they gave him and all of the staff at the Manor.
Raymond's daughters would like to thank Assemblyman Kieran Lalor, Congressman Sean Maloney, and Senator William Larkin for their work on behalf of our father.
Private funeral services will be held with interment in the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
