Raymond
Odell
April 17, 1931 – January 10, 2026
Raymond J. Odell, 94, a lifelong resident of Poughquag, NY, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 17, 1931, he was the son of Ella and Raymond Odell.
Raymond retired from Operating Engineers Local #137 after 32 years of service. He was a life member of the Beekman Fire Department.
Raymond was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 66 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Claire Odell, and together they raised seven children.
He is survived by his children: Honora Knox and her husband Bill of Myrtle Beach, SC; Raymond Odell and his wife Hollie of Beekman; Michael Odell and his wife Brenda of Clinton Corners; Stephen Odell of Red Hook; Sean Odell and his wife Ivy of Dover Plains; and Tara Maucieri and her husband John of Pleasant Valley. He is also survived by his sister, Christine Wilde of Arizona.
His pride and joy were his 18 grandchildren: Ryan Knox, Peter Knox, Daniel Odell, Adam Odell, Erin Essery, Cassandra Orser, Carly Odell, Kyle Odell, Shane Odell, Branden Odell, Courtney Pomerantz, Denis Odell Jr., Tessa Odell, Lauren Muncey, Lindsey Odell, Alessandra Maucieri, John Maucieri, and one "adopted" grandson, Sean Greene; and his 27 great-grandchildren, with number 28 on the way.
He was predeceased by his wife Claire Odell; his son Denis Odell; his sister Janice Capalbo; his granddaughter Lila Claire Odell; and his daughter-in-law Lynn Odell.
Raymond loved the outdoors-fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening, and splitting wood-and he stayed active in the things he loved up until his very last day. Some of the highlights of his year were his deep-sea fishing trips to Rhode Island, especially the annual trip with his granddaughters. He lived a full, rich life, filled with adventures, experiences, and memories that he cherished and often shared with those around him. Raymond had a warm, welcoming spirit and never met a stranger, known as "Raymie" to his many friends. He often said, "I've been very lucky. I've had a great life," and he truly lived those words every day-with humor, gratitude, and love for his family and everyone around him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 14th from 4 - 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 15th at 10 am at the funeral home followed by burial at Beekman Cemetery.
