Obituary

Raymond Varley, 77, a resident of LaGrangeville for 27 years and formerly of Yonkers, died on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn on October 29, 1935, he was the son of Thomas and Delia Boylan Varley. He proudly served our country in the US Army in Europe from 1957-1959 and was employed by the International Union of Operating Engineers in New York City for 50 years.

On September 29, 1962 at St. Casimir's Church in Yonkers, Raymond married Lorraine Zawacki who survives at home. They recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary. He is also survived by his beloved son, Matthew Garth Varley; brother and wife, Thomas and Vita Varley of Palm Coast, FL; sisters-in-law, Joy Zawacki of Armonk and Eileen Varley of Bethpage; nieces and nephews, Joshua Zawacki of Queens, Gerard Varley of Neptune, NJ, Barbara Varley of St. Thomas, USVI, Dennis and Antonia Varley of Bethpage, Eileen and John Thornton of Chattanooga, TN, Kevin and Kathy Varley of Smithtown, James and Karla Varley of Massapequa, Joseph and Colleen Varley of Levittown, Douglas Heine, Diane Heine O'Brien; his great-nieces and nephews, Jonathan and Janine Varley, Ryan, Katie and Sam Thornton, Daniel, Timothy and Patrick Varley, Hope Elizabeth and Erika Lorraine Varley, Liam, Kyra and Ronan Varley, Brendan and Cara Varley; and many cousins including his special cousin, Sr. Miriam Joseph Boylan of Washington DC; and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, James and Joseph; sister, Eileen Varley Heine; brother-in-law, Wilbur Heine; niece, Anna Varley; mother and father-in-law, Sofia and Sigmund Zawacki; and brothers-in-law, Stanley W. Zawacki and David J. Zawacki.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville followed by military honors. Burial will at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Yonkers.
