Raymond L. "Curly" Ward, 77, a lifelong area resident, died on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born on January 2, 1933 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Charles and Georgianna Veach Ward. He served in the US Marine Corps as a Corporal during the Korean Conflict and was employed as an attendant at Hudson River State Hospital in Poughkeepsie for 20 years until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and had formerly managed several little league teams.
On February 15, 1964 at the Hopewell Reformed Church, Raymond married Eunice Duclos-Gardner who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Mel Gardner and wife Adela of Hopewell Junction, Alan Gardner and wife Darlene of Hopewell Junction and Donna Breault and husband John of Wappingers Falls; his grandchildren, Steven, Lauren, Michael, Mike, Lisa, Barbara, Jessica and Ryan; his brothers, Richard Ward of Poughkeepsie and Roger Ward of California; and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Donald and Robert Ward.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Taylor Holbrook officiating. Interment will follow in Hopewell Cemetery with military honors.
