Obituary

Poughkeepsie - Richard Earl Bobst, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on July 6, 1935, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Richard married his wife Linda (Kirsten) in 1960 after graduating from Ohio State University. After several years serving in the U.S. Army, Richard joined IBM in 1963. His career with IBM ultimately landed him and his family in Bedford Hills, New York and Mt. Kisco, New York. In 1986, he left IBM and joined Index Systems as a Business Management Consultant which took him and his wife back home to the Midwest where they split time between their beloved cabin in the woods outside of Bloomington, Indiana and their apartment overlooking Lake Michigan in Chicago. After retiring, he and his wife volunteered their time and talents to various educational and literacy programs. Many years later, they decided to move back to the east coast to be closer to their children and grandchildren, settling in Chapel Hill and then Cary, NC.

Richard was an avid reader, a lover of music, art, food, dogs, cats, and an aficionado of all things automotive. Together with his wife, they spent much of their later years doting on and supporting their eight grandchildren.

Richard was predeceased by his wife Linda on July 1, 2020. He is survived by his children; Elizabeth Bobst of Carrboro, NC, Susan Bobst and her husband, Doug Plain of Silver Springs, MD and Patrick Bobst and his wife, Anne Cutler of Poughkeepsie, NY. In addition, he was proud to be called Papa by his eight grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all.

Arrangements are private and under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY.
