Obituary

POUGHQUAG – Richard T. Cannone, 74, a resident of Summerfield, Florida for the past 15 years and formerly from Poughquag since 1969, died on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.

Born on June 4, 1938 in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Joseph and Katherine (Figlia) Cannone. On February 17, 1962 at St. Joseph's Church in Brooklyn, Rich married Barbara Digirolamo. Mrs. Cannone, his wife of 50 years, survives at home.

Rich proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1961-1968. He was employed as an Industrial Engineer for IBM in East Fishkill for over 25 years until his retirement. During his retirement, he worked as a Real Estate Agent for Prudential in Hopewell Junction for three years. In Florida, he was a member of the local Rod and Gun Club, the Italian American Club, a fishing club, and a computer club. Rich loved the outdoors, but above all, loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.

In addition to his wife, Rich is survived by his son, Richard M. Cannone and his wife Jennifer of Sanford, FL; his grandsons, Zachary, Gregory, and Jacob Cannone; his brother-in-law Michael Digirolamo and his wife Sally of Manalapan, NJ; and many cousins, friends, and neighbors. He was predeceased by his sons, Jeffrey and Gregory Cannone, who died on October 5, 1984.

Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by a Celebration of His Life at 8 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by burial in St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
