Richard Joseph Carlin, a resident of Orange County, NY since 1981 and formerly of Brooklyn, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 in Shohola, PA. He was 85.
Son of the late Charles and Cecilia (Sullivan) Carlin, he was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 4, 1938. In 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. His service included time aboard the USS Midway. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1960 and then served as a Reservist until 1962.
Following his military service, Richard became a Police Officer for the NYPD Housing Authority, where he served 21 years. Following his retirement in 1985, he went on to work for Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan, NY.
Survivors include his son, Thomas Carlin of Brooklyn, NY; his daughter, Debra Monsees & her husband John of Hawly, PA; his son, Richard Carlin of Queens, NY; his granddaughters, Megan and Lauren; his stepsons, Albert and Nelson Acevedo, along with their families; his former wife, Gracemarie Smith Carlin; and many other relatives & friends.
Richard was predeceased by his parents as well as several siblings: Charles Carlin, Arthur "Art" Carlin, Gene Carlin, Anna Carlin, and Cecilia Carlin.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 5 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 6 at the funeral home, followed by interment at Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY.
