Richard
Dorsey
March 11, 1940 – October 11, 2024
With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Richard Dorsey (aka Dick, aka Rich), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Born on March 11, 1940, in Yonkers, NY to Joseph and Elizabeth "Reenie" Dorsey.
His journey in this world came to a peaceful end on October 11, 2024, in Fishkill, NY.
Richard was born and raised in Yonkers, New York.
His mother Elizabeth, endured life with 4 boys, Richard & his 3 brothers -Joseph, Edward, & Gerard, all of whom kept their parents on their toes, despite (or maybe because of) their Irish Catholic upbringing.
Richard graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1958 and immediately enlisted in the United States Army, serving until 1964. He served some of that time in Greenland, as a radio operator. In 2022, he proudly took an Honor Flight to Washington DC.
A career that spanned over 30 years at Reader's Digest in Pleasantville, New York culminated in retirement in 1996. He spent those 30 years in a variety of positions in printing and outside services management..
On May 25th, 1963, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Wright in Yonkers, New York.
She survives at home in Fishkill, New York.
Richard was an avid golfer, playing many rounds with close friends over many years at a variety of courses in New York and South Carolina. He was previously a member at Southern Dutchess Country Club & Beekman Country Club.
He was also a lifelong, {and somewhat long suffering!} New York Jets fan, as well as a lifelong New York Yankees fan.
Survivors include: wife Elizabeth, son Christopher Dorsey & his wife Lisa of Valley Stream, New York; daughter Christine Campbell & her husband William of South Portland, Maine.
Grandchildren: Nicole Dorsey and fiancé Louis Ingrassia, Alyson Dorsey & fiancé Eric Cedeno,
Emma Campbell, Aileen Campbell, Alec Campbell, and Evan Campbell.
Brother Edward and wife Jean, brother Gerard and wife Pam.
Richard and Elizabeth's daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Dorsey, departed this world too soon in 1968.
Richard was also predeceased by both of his parents, Joseph & Elizabeth Dorsey, and his brother Joseph Dorsey.
Sincere thanks to all the staff on the Roosevelt Unit at Taconic Rehabilitation in Fishkill who cared for our Richard with unwavering warmth & compassion for the past few months.
Additional gratitude to the neighbors who have been more like family to Richard & Betty for many years.
