DOVER PLAINS - Richard "Poppy" William Galente, Sr., passed away surrounded by his family on December 15, 2025 at the age of 90.

Born in the Bronx on March 17, 1935, Richard was the son of the late James and Mary (Moliterni) Galente. He is survived by his "queen" and love of his life, Alice (Wilson) Galente for 59 years where she resides in the house he built. He enjoyed many crazy adventures with his lifelong friend and buddy, William Chiamulera, who has predeceased him. He also enjoyed many trips to Cabo, Florida, and building his "Empire". He loved the time he spent with the "Bronx boys" having their meetings and sing-a-longs.

Family was very important to him. "The more the merrier" was his motto welcoming many others as if they were part of the family too.

He survived by his children who will remember him for his after dinner guitar solos, Catherine Aaron and her husband Robert, James Galente , William Galente and his wife Debbie, Laura Calabrese , Christopher Galente and his wife Joanne, Richard Galente, Jr., Robert T. Galente, Angela McKee, and Jonathan Galente and his wife Sarina ; his grandchildren, Alicia (Daryl), Alexander (Stephanie), Richard James, Victoria, William Jr., Anthony (Hayley), Andreana, Samantha, Jakob, Tyler, Justin, Megan, Evan, Carly, John, and a 17th grandchild in June; his great-grandchildren, Hailey, Kyla , and Maddox, brother Ronald Galente and his wife Rose; and many nieces and nephews, as well as his faithful furry companion Gypsy ( Tippy ).

In addition to his parents, Richard was also predeceased by his grandson, Sean; and his brother, Robert Galente.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 21st from 3 - 6 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered on Monday, December 22nd at 11:30 am at St. Joseph's Church, 15 North Avenue, Millbrook .
