Obituary

BEEKMAN – Richard James Hughes, 81, a Poughquag resident since 2013 and formerly of Mahopac passed away on July 10, 2021, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Yonkers on November 26, 1939, he was the son of Raymond and Florence (Ferine) Hughes. Richard graduated from Ardsley High School in 1958 and proudly served our country in the US Navy aboard the USS Paiute. He had worked as a mechanic for Robison Fuel Oil in Elmsford for over 40 years prior to his retirement in 2002.

An avid fan of the Mets and Giants, he loved fishing, movies, FOX news, music and designing model airplanes. He also enjoyed working out at the gym with his wife and friends and having a COLD brewsky with his buddies.

On August 29, 1964, at Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington, Richard married Veronica Taguiam who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Sandra Aleta and Brent Hughes and his wife Marie; his grandchildren, Mikayla and Nicholas Hughes, Anthony and Dylan Lane; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sisters, Carol Iamiceli and Aleta Pataro.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 14th from 2-4pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a funeral service and military honors at 3:30pm.
