Richard J. Schultz Sr., a resident of Hopewell Junction for 22 years, and previously of Yonkers, died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on September 22, 2023. He was 78.
Richard was born on March 30, 1945, in Yonkers, New York, to the late Richard and Madeline (Colabattisto) Schultz. He graduated from Saunders Trade and Technical School in 1963 and went on to work as a Steamfitter for Local 543/Local 21 for over 50 years, following in the footsteps of his father. On May 18, 1968, in St. John's Episcopal Church in Yonkers, Richard married the love of his life, Charlene Lorio. He always remembered their anniversary with flowers and a card.
Richard was a proud union member and American, he loved his country. He enjoyed tinkering and wood working, and was hailed as the family handy man, he could fix it all. A history buff, Richard was especially knowledgeable about the Civil War. He was a WWE fan, watching matches weekly. He also dabbled in his genealogy. Above all, he loved spending time with his granddaughters, Jessica, and Rhiannon, he adoringly referred to them as "my girls".
In addition to his wife, Charlene, Richard is survived by his son, Richard Jr. and his wife, Michele; his granddaughters, Jessica, and Rhiannon; his nephew Billy; and his niece, Laura. Richard was predeceased by his brother, William R. Schultz.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 26th, from 3 pm to 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. 895 Route 82 Hopewell Junction with a service at 5pm.
