With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Oliver Wiggan on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the age of 68. He was a beloved son, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. Richard was born in Kingston, Jamaica on June 27, 1956, to Oswald and Adeline Wiggan. He attended Camperdown High School in Kingston, Jamaica and he graduated from Evander Childs High School in Bronx, New York. He attended Hampton University.

In 1987, Richard joined the New York Police Department and was subsequently promoted to a detective. He was married to Valerie Wiggan for over thirty years and at the time of his passing, he was retired from the NYPD.

Richard is survived by his children and their spouses, Keisha and Alexis Johnson, Richard Wiggan II, and Oswald and Zulaika Wiggan; and his grandchildren, Alexa, Olivia, Sydney and Marcellus Johnson, and Zoie Wiggan. He is also survived by his mother, Adeline Wiggan and his siblings Anthony, Paul and Sandra, and his nieces and nephews.

Richard loved his family deeply. He was a blackbelt in Shotokan Karate; he enjoyed playing and watching tennis. In fact, he loved watching all sports especially soccer. He was a history buff and an avid reader who was knowledgeable on many subjects. Richard was happiest relaxing at home with family especially his grandkids. He was always willing to offer a word of encouragement or lend a helping hand to others. Richard made a lasting impression on everyone that knew him.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on Thursday, April 10th at 1pm at St. John's Episcopal Church (Tuckahoe), 100 Underhill St., Yonkers, NY 10710 immediately followed by a reception across the street.
