Robert F. Christie, 83, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1974 and formerly of the Bronx, died on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in the Bronx on July 6, 1931, he was the son of Joseph and Rose Christie. He proudly served our country in the 101st Airborne of the US Army and was employed as a Conductor for Metro North Railroad for 40 years until his retirement in 1991. He was also the legislative representative for the United Transportation Union. Following his retirement, he spent his winters in Lake Worth, FL. Bob was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction and a member of the Elks #275, Poughkeepsie and the East Fishkill Seniors. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, riding quads, the outdoors and animals.
On October 13, 1956 at St. Theresa's Church in the Bronx, Bob married Mary Rizzo who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Rosemary Christie of Naples, FL, Marianne Peci of LaGrangeville, Joseph Christie of Hopewell Junction, and Robert F. Christie Jr. and his wife Lori of Hopewell Junction; his sister, Donna Koester of Jupiter, FL; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
