Obituary

EAST FISHKILL - Robert J. Hughes, 68, a lifelong area resident, died suddenly on June 13, 2017 at his home.

Born in Beacon on August 24, 1948, he was the son of Fred and Katherine (Schaufhauser) Hughes. Bob proudly served our country in the US Army. Following his retirement from BASF Chemical Company in Peekskill, Bob worked as a Police Officer for the Dutchess County Sheriff's Department, and Town of Fishkill and Village of Fishkill Police Departments. He was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction, and a life member and past Lieutenant for Beacon Engine, Company #1.

On June 12, 1971 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill, Bob married Lillian Rutledge who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Robert G. Hughes of Wappingers Falls, Brian Hughes of Wappingers Falls, and Deborah Lynch of Milford, PA; his grandchildren, Michayla Hughes and Dylan Lynch; his siblings, Patricia and Dave Osborne of Melbourne, FL, James P. and Joan Hughes of PA, Mary LaDuca of Wappingers Falls, and Carol McDonald of Beacon; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Rosemary Rogers, John C. Hughes, Frederick L. Hughes and Jane Dirito.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Private interment will be in St. Denis Cemetery.
