PLEASANT VALLEY - Robert Arthur Oesterreich, 80, an area resident for 18 years and formerly of Westchester County and Bayside, Queens, died on Friday, September 07, 2012 at the Lutheran Care Center.
Born in Chicago, IL on May 13, 1932, he was the son of Arthur and Evelyn Krickow Oesterreich. Robert proudly served our country as a Master Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed as a Vice President for Chase Bank in Manhattan until his retirement.
Robert was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a former member of the Community Singers of Queens where he served as President, and was a choir member at each of the churches that he belonged to throughout the years. He enjoyed gardening, traveling for business and pleasure and cruising with his wife following his retirement.
On June 14, 1958, Robert married Claudia Nie who survives at home. He is also survived by his daughter, Melanie Potter and her husband Hilon of Hyde Park; his son, John Oesterreich of College Point; his brothers, Wilfred and Duane Oesterreich of Chicago, IL; and his grandchildren, Erin, Christopher and Kevin Potter, and Keith Oesterreich. He was predeceased by his son, Paul Robert Oesterreich, in 1989.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 10-11am at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 55 Wilbur Blvd., Poughkeepsie. The funeral service will be at 11am with Pastor Dan Ward officiating followed by military honors.
