WAPPINGERS FALLS – Robert V. Oswain, 80, an area resident for 38 years and formerly of Dobbs Ferry, died suddenly on Jan. 9, 2023, at his home.
Born in the Bronx on March 9, 1942, the son of Edward and Lillian (Horne) Oswain, Bob went by many nicknames.
As "Oz" or "Ozzie," he worked as a correction officer for the Westchester County Department of Correction until his retirement in 1999. For many years he trained fellow officers on new equipment and defense tactics. Bob was also a great supporter of police officers and a good friend to our late Sheriff Butch Anderson.
As "Yankee Bob," the name given him by friends throughout Dutchess County, he constantly talked about his beloved New York Yankees and hawked team collectibles. He worked each year at a premier baseball emporium in Cooperstown, N.Y., during the National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Weekend. Among the legends he grew close to was Pete Rose.
As "Disco Bob," he taught dancing at disco clubs during the '70s. It was then that he met Rosalie Seppe, whom he married in 1980. She survives him as do his daughters, Roxanne and Dariann (the latter from his first marriage); and his grandson, Dominic, the true light of his life. Sons Robert V. Oswain, Jr. and Anthony Oswain predeceased him in 2010 and 2017, respectively.
One of Bob's favorite pastimes was stopping at Dunkin' for morning coffee nearby his home and regaling anyone who would listen with stories and his life experiences.
