Obituary

Robert Thomas Scannell, Jr., known to all as "Tom", passed away in the early hours of March 14, 2013. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Cynthia Scannell; his children, Deborah Scannell, Linda Bailey (husband Chris), Pam Pedlow (husband Chris), and Robert Thomas Scannell III, "Bob" (wife Andrea); grandchildren, Richard Bailey (wife Brianne), Maggie Pedlow Fleming (husband Dylan), Patrick Bailey, Amanda Scannell (daughter of Deborah), Cooper and Luke Scannell (sons of Bob); his sister Harriette Scannell Morgan (husband Monte); and nephews, Craig and Bruce.

Tom was a long-time resident of East Fishkill, an active and impassioned member of the VFW Post 1286, the East Fishkill Historical Society, Porsche Club of America, and the US Ski Patrol, and was a lifetime member of the East Fishkill Rescue Squad. He loved tinkering with his cars, his house, and his chickens.
During World War II and the Korean War, Tom served in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer.

Before retiring in 1983, Tom was an educator. He received his Bachelor's degree from Cornell University. He began his teaching career in upstate NY, teaching Agriculture and serving as sponsor of the Future Farmers of America Club. He then obtained his Master's in Guidance Counseling from Syracuse University, subsequently relocating the family to East Fishkill. Tom spent the remainder of his teaching career as a guidance counselor within the Lakeland School District in Putnam County, NY.

Tom was loved by his friends and colleagues, and cherished by his family. His absence leaves a void in our hearts.
