Beloved Chef, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Restaurateur

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rolf Baumgartner, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and renowned chef, on July 7, 2025 at age 79, surrounded by loved ones.

For 37 years, Rolf and his wife, Verena, were the heart of the Brasserie Swiss Restaurant in Ossining, NY, welcoming patrons with warmth, humor, and authentic Swiss cuisine. His passion for food and dedication to quality made the restaurant a cherished local institution.

Before settling in Ossining, Rolf honed his craft in kitchens across Switzerland, Holland, London, and New York, and traveled the world as a chef aboard the SS Rotterdam cruise ship. These experiences enriched his culinary skills and inspired the creativity he brought to every dish.

Rolf was known for his lively spirit, generosity, and love of storytelling. Outside the kitchen, he enjoyed gardening, documenting the family with photos, traveling with Verena, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Verena; children, Robert and Susan; grandchildren, Waverly, Patrick, Olivia, and Casey; and many friends and loyal patrons.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The World Central Kitchen , or simply raise a glass and share a meal in his memory.

He fed us, taught us, loved us-and will be deeply missed.
