Ronald Vieira passed away peacefully at The Pines at Poughkeepsie on May 3, 2026. He was 88.

Born on May 24, 1937, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Ronald was the son of the late James and Georgianna (Ferreira) Vieira.

Ronald earned his master's degree in education from Stonehill College in Providence, Rhode Island. He devoted 34 years to shaping young minds as a high school science teacher in the Half Hollow Hills Central School District in Dix Hills, Long Island. Passionate about education, he also co-authored a science textbook during his career.

Ronald had a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed classic cars, cheering on the Boston Red Sox, solving crossword puzzles, and spending time at the library-especially drawn to mystery novels and the works of Stephen King.

On September 1, 1971, Ronald married the love of his life, Carol Perlmutter, on Long Island. Their enduring and devoted partnership was an inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they shared a love of travel, exploring destinations from Alaska and Hawaii to Egypt and Italy. One of their most cherished adventures was a cross-country road trip in a Mustang-an experience that later inspired them to purchase one of their own. Upon retirement, Ronald and Carol settled into a home with a beautiful view from the top of Colfax Mountain, where they created the life they had long dreamed of. Carol predeceased him in April 2024.

Ronald is survived by his loving daughters, Allison Goericke and her husband, Peter, and Beth Stacy and her husband, Brian; his cherished grandchildren, Liam, Zoey, and Soren; and his sister, Melba Ryan and her husband, Frank.
