Pleasant Valley- Rose Toscano Lawson a resident of Pleasant Valley since 1966, died on May 16, 2021 at Westchester Medical Center. She was 90.
Rose was born in Bristol, CT on September 6, 1930, the daughter of Alphonso and Mary (Coughlan) Toscano. She was the youngest of eleven children, attended local schools in Bristol, and on September 3, 1956 married Sam Lawson, Jr. She and her husband resided in Bristol until 1960, when they moved to Bermuda for federal government work in support of the NASA space program.
Her husband's employment with IBM brought Rose and her family to the Mid-Hudson Valley in 1966, where she was a homemaker and full-time Mother until the last of her children graduated from local schools. In 1992 Rose entered the local workforce as a personal care aide of elderly people at the Vassar Warner Home and with St. Francis Home Care in Poughkeepsie. In 2003 she was quoted as saying "my retirement is appropriate now because most people I care for now are younger in age than I".
Service to her community included volunteer work Holy Trinity Church and support of several Arlington School District activities in local schools. Family and friends fondly recall her often used expression, "I've gotta' get going".
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Lawson is survived by her daughter Amy Lawson and son-in-law Christopher Hayes of Windsor, CT, a daughter-in-law Linda Kopp of South Salem, NY and a brother Edward Toscano of Farmington, CT. She was pre-deceased by another daughter Joanne Lawson.
Calling hours will be Saturday May 22 from 10am to 12pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill Inc. 1089 Main Street A service will take place at 12PM in the funeral home followed by interment of ashes at Calvary Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of her daughter Joanne Lawson.
