Rose Marie
Pomarico
September 28, 1936 – June 6, 2025
In Loving Memory of Rose Marie Pomarico (nee Cucci )
September 28, 1936 - June 6, 2025
Rose, 88 of Mooresville NC, formerly a lifelong resident of Glenham, NY, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in NY. She was surrounded by her two children and one of her three grandchildren.
Her husband of 69 years and her life's love, Ralph preceded her in death on August 23, 2024. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, their bond and commitment to one another was unbounded, like no other love.
Rose is survived by her loving family, her daughter Lisa Patterson, son Anthony (Darlene), three grandchildren, Courtney Patterson-Bourhill (Dan), Ashley Piper (Jacob), grandson Nicholas Pomarico, and four great-grandchildren, (Piper) Wyatt, Elsa Marie, Calvin, and June; her brothers Nicholas (Carol) and Louis (Marie) Cucci, and several nieces and nephews. Rose is preceded in death by her sisters (and best friends) Anne Maffucci and Emilie Vileno. All of whom brought immense pride and joy to her life.
Rose was born in the Bronx NY, to the late Antonio and Teresa (nee Silvestri) on September 28, 1936.
At age 12, Rose and her family moved to their home in Glenham NY, a home that she helped build alongside her father and oldest brother Nicholas. She was very proud of her family's heritage and accomplishments.
Throughout her life, Rose wore many hats. One that she took pride in was caring for her parents later in their lives. She excelled in her work within the accounting and banking industry, her work ethic and dedication to all she touched was unmatched.
A woman of energy, resilience, and boundless warmth, Rose led a life filled with purpose and passion. Always on the move, she found joy in staying busy, whether through work, hobbies, or time spent with family and loved ones. She believed in always giving back.
She had a strong love for all animals. Animals brought her joy and comfort; especially, in her final days.
In her younger years, she proudly served as a lifeguard, a role that reflected both her strength and care for others. Rose was a Boy Scout den mother for many years, in her retirement she held treasurer positions for her various golf leagues, her HOA, and community association. Though her biggest joy in her retirement was the time spent with her three grandchildren.
Rose and her husband Ralph were avid golfers and could often be found on the course enjoying the game and the outdoors they both cherished. She won many golf tournaments and trophies. Her competitive spirit always came through. She also was an avid skier and enjoyed time on the slopes with her children and family.
Rose and her husband Ralph were not just a married couple; they were a team that worked together in all facets of their lives. There were no better role models a child could ask for.
They for many years after retirement had a winter home on Florida's east coast, where they golfed and enjoyed time with her siblings. In 2012 they sold both their lifelong home in Glenham and their Florida home and moved to Moorseville NC, where they purchased their "forever home ". Living in NC brought them such happiness and joy... with endless days of golf and warm weather.
There was nothing that Rose could not do or fix, from sewing her own clothes, cutting hair (Ralph never had to go to a barber), mowing the lawn, changing the oil in her car, there wasn't a electronic device that she couldn't fix, building a deck, to making the best meatballs and gravy (Aunt Rosie's meatballs), she gave a new meaning to the use of Duct Tape and may have invented the first chip clip by using a wooden clothes pin to close bags; she may have been the first MacGyver. Regardless how difficult something was, she always made it seem effortless... her tenacity, inner strength, and ingenuity were unprecedented.
To her daughter she was the epitome of Rosie the Riveter.
Her legacy of kindness, fierce independence, hard work, and zest for life lives on in all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of Rose's life will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025 from 4pm-7pm followed by a service at 7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc. Fishkill, NY. A private entombment will take place on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Dementia Society of America at dementiasociety.org or local SPCA at dcspca.org
