Rose Sawner, 98, a resident of Wingate at Dutchess and formerly of Poughquag, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 7, 2010.

Rose was born on January 12, 1912 to Frank and Mary Clark in Mechanicville, New York. She had three brothers, John, Frank and James as well as two sisters, Mary Clark and Beatrice Mulligan. She graduated from Utica High School and worked at Marcy State Hospital for a time.

She married Henry R. Sawner on August 3, 1936 at St. Patrick's Church in Utica. Together they had four children: Donald, Jane, Kathleen and James. She is survived by her son, James and his wife Penny; and her grandsons Shannon Sawner of Kansas and James Sawner of Poughquag. Rose and Henry were long-time parishioners of St. Denis Church.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hudson Falls.
