Obituary

POUGHKEEPSIE - Rosemarie Theresa Ryan, 86, died on February 25, 2025 at the Lutheran Care Center following a long illness.

"Missy" to her family and "Rosie" to everyone who walked into the Emergency Department at Putnam Hospital, Rosemarie Ryan was a truly memorable person. She was nearly six feet tall, and her personality was bigger than any one room could hold. She grew up poor in Ossining, the eldest daughter of John Parthemore and Rose Nigro's five children. Her father nicknamed her Missy because she was a mischievous child, and the nickname stuck. That probably had something to do with her outrageous and fun-loving personality, she carried all through her life. In her youth, she lived among a large extended family of Parthemore and Nigro cousins. She had special memories of summers spent with Uncle Louie and Aunt Adelaide Consaga in Maine. She was especially close to their daughter Monica Ciocchi, who was like a sister to her. Missy was a devoted sister to her siblings John, Nick, Adeline, and George. After school and later work, she would lead her younger siblings on adventures, such as walking the aqueduct to pick violets or going down to the Hudson River to swim.

She married Thomas Ryan in 1966 after meeting at work at the General Motors assembly plant in Tarrytown. They moved to Mahopac and raised four boys in a raucous and loving household. Missy and Tom loved each other immensely and when Tom died in 1994, she lost a piece of her heart. However, she was able to fill that void with her grandchildren. Missy was a world-class grandmother who doted on them. They will have a lifetime of memories playing cards with "G-Ma", learning cuss words from G-Ma, and hearing outrageous stories from G-Ma.

Late in life, Missy suffered from dementia, which affected how she remembered things. Now she finally is free of the disease and has been reunited with Tom in Heaven. She was a warm and loving person, fierce and passionate. She will be missed but you can still see her vivacious love of life in each of her grandchildren.

Missy enjoyed knitting, gardening, playing cards (cheating), doing puzzles, QVC shopping, accessorizing with her favorite jewelry, reading romance novels, swimming, sunbathing and going for drives to see Christmas lights.

Missy is survived by her sons, Thomas Ryan and his wife Ann Marie, John Ryan, Patrick Ryan and his wife Patricia, and Christopher Ryan; her sister Adeline Kraskinski, brother, George Parthemore and his wife Lynn; and her grandchildren, Madeleine, Thomas, Abigail, Leila-Rose, John, Sean, Connor, Brandon and Hailey. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her brothers, John and Nicholas Parthemore.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 8, from 9-11 am at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. There will be a funeral service at 11am and burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery in Ossining.
