Obituary

HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Russell Dexter Hodgeman, 92, an area resident for over 56 years, passed away on August 4, 2021 at home surrounded by family.

Born in East Providence, RI on November 22, 1928, Rusty was the son of the late Rev. Byron and Marion (Peck) Hodgeman. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War in Greenland under the command of Capt. Earl Mountain. Rusty retired from IBM in East Fishkill after 35 years of service. Upon graduating from Zion Bible Institute, he traveled to Guanda, Africa where he served on the Grobatema Mission Station.

Russell was a gifted musician. If you ever had the opportunity to hear him play you would have thought he was born with an organ or piano in his hands. Rusty also was gifted with the ability to play the pipe organ and played the Cadet Chapel Pipe Organ at West Point - He enjoyed playing at weddings and churches over the years. He traveled with the evangelist, Richard Vineyard, as his organist. He wrote many songs including "Trace of His Form". He was organist and choir director at Faith Assembly of God Church. He attended Chapel Falls Christian Fellowship.

On November 8, 1952 in Binghamton, Rusty married June (McDonald) Hodgeman who survives at home after 68 years of marriage. He is also survived by his daughters, Sherri Hodgeman of Virginia and Debbi Brogan of Yorktown; his grandchildren, Jason, Candice, and Brandi; his great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jayden, and Cassandra; his sister, Priscilla Hodgeman; and many nieces and nephews.

Russell was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Herbert Hodgeman, Martin Hodgeman, Melissa Boyce, Ramona Rutherford-Jones, Jathniel Hodgeman, David Hodgeman, and Byron Hodgeman, Jr.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 5 pm - 7pm, with the funeral service beginning at 7pm, at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Burial will take place at Stevens Corner Cemetery in Rehoboth, MA at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will also be held at a later date at Awakening Church in Smithfield, RI.
