Russell Wayne Mahood, a ten-year resident of Cold Spring and formerly of Newton, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at New York Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor, NY. He was 79. Son of the late Joseph and Alice (Stewart) Mahood, he was born in Yonkers, NY on April 20, 1944. After graduating from Saunders High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged from active service in 1968. Russell worked as a steamfitter and belonged to the Steamfitters Local 638 in New York City. After more than 50 years, he retired in 2000 due to illness. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he loved passing his knowledge on to his sons and grandchildren. On April 7, 1984, he married Carol (Christiansen) Mahood in Staten Island, NY. Carol survives at home in Cold Spring. Additional survivors include his son, Joseph Mahood & his wife Jennifer Gill of Briarcliff Manor, NY; his son, Wayne Mahood & his wife Kristen of Ossining, NY; his grandchildren, Tyler, Benjamin, Edward, Max, and Aislyn Mahood; his sister, Sandra Avallone & her husband Paul; his brother, James Mahood (a fellow retired steamfitter) & his wife Lorraine; and his niece, Alice Jordan Pike; as well as many other loving relatives & friends. Russell was predeceased by his parents, his sister Martha, and his former wife, Lisa McTighe. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 30 at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY.
