WAPPINGERS FALLS – Russell David Twilley, Jr., 50, a lifelong area resident, died on November 2, 2021 at Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital.
Born on October 8, 1971 in Poughkeepsie, David was the son of the late Russell and Mary Ann (Bullett) Twilley. He had been employed by Motion Laboratories in Cortlandt Manor for over 15 years.
Baseball was his life! David, who grew up playing baseball, was actively involved with the Town of Wappinger Little League. For the last 17 years, he has volunteered as a coach and served on the board of directors. During his time on the board of directors, he was currently serving as the Vice President of the Major League, and had previously served as Vice President of the Instructional League, Vice President of the Minor League, and the Safety Officer. He coached many All-Star Teams, with his pride and joy being several of them playing at the state level. In 2013, his 10-11 year old team was the NY State Runner Up; In 2014, his 11-12 year old team was the NY State Runner Up; In 2015, his 11-12 year old team was the NY State Runner Up, and lost to the eventual Little League World Series Champions.
David is survived by his sister, Barbara Mooradian (Michael) of Wappingers Falls; his nephews, Mark Straub and Joseph Mooradian; his great-nephew, Mark Straub, Jr., who he affectionately called the "Apple of his eye"; many aunts, uncles, cousins; and countless friends and players who he coached throughout the years.
A Celebration of David's Life is being held on Saturday at 1pm at the Town of Wappinger Baseball Field #R2, 95 Robinson Lane, Wappingers Falls.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been set up in David's name for aspiring student baseball athletes. Donations may be made payable to the David Twilley Athletic Memorial Fund and mailed to Lori Jiava, 4 Marshall Rd., Box 193, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
